Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has stated that the national cricket team requires significant changes, describing the need as a "big surgery" rather than a minor adjustment. Following Pakistan's disappointing defeat to India in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Naqvi expressed his dissatisfaction, highlighting the current low point of Pakistani cricket.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Naqvi remarked that today's defeat was disheartening on all fronts and emphasized that the team’s poor performance indicates the necessity for substantial changes. He assured the nation that a major overhaul is imminent and underscored the importance of improving the team's performance.
Naqvi mentioned that preparations for the Champions Trophy should start now, suggesting that it is time to give new talent, currently on the sidelines, an opportunity. He stressed the goal of transforming the Pakistan cricket team into one of the best in the world and acknowledged the internal issues contributing to the recent losses.
He conveyed the nation's disappointment with the team's performance, particularly the careless and irresponsible batting that led to Pakistan's inability to chase down a modest target of 120 runs against India. Players like Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, and Imad Wasim failed to adapt to the match situation, leading to their downfall.
India's victory by 6 runs has significantly diminished Pakistan's chances of advancing to the Super Eight stage. Naqvi pointed out that Pakistan's future in the World Cup hinges on the outcome of the match between the USA and Ireland, with a potential loss to Ireland likely ending Pakistan's World Cup campaign.
