T20 World Cup: West Indies Defeated Afghanistan By A Huge Margin Of 104 Runs

In the 40th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, West Indies secured a comprehensive victory over Afghanistan, winning by a substantial margin of 104 runs. The Group C match took place at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in Saint Lucia, where Afghanistan won the toss and opted to field first.

First Innings: Batting first, West Indies posted a formidable total of 218 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Nicholas Pooran was the star of the innings, scoring a blistering 98 runs off 53 balls, including 8 sixes and 6 fours, before being run out. Johnson Charles contributed 43 runs, Rovman Powell added 26, and Shai Hope made 25 runs. For Afghanistan, Gulbadin Naib took 2 wickets for 14 runs in his 2 overs, while Azmatullah Omarzai and Naveen-ul-Haq picked up one wicket each.

Second Innings: Chasing a target of 219, Afghanistan struggled from the outset. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed in the first over by Akeal Hosein, and Gulbadin Naib followed soon after, scoring only 7 runs. Ibrahim Zadran and Azmatullah Omarzai showed some resistance with scores of 38 and 23 runs respectively. However, the rest of the batting lineup faltered, and Afghanistan was bowled out for 114 runs in the 17th over. West Indies' Obed McCoy took 3 wickets, while Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie claimed 2 wickets each. Andre Russell and Alzarri Joseph also chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Both teams had already secured their spots in the Super 8 stage of the tournament, having accumulated 6 points each in the first round.
