Pakistan's head coach, Gary Kirsten, has expressed his disappointment with the team's performance and fitness levels following their failure to reach the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Pakistan faced unexpected defeats against the USA and India, and despite victories over Canada and Ireland, they were unable to advance.
Sources indicate that Kirsten, frustrated by the narrow win against Ireland, openly criticized the players for their inadequate fitness, skills, and game awareness. He highlighted that the team’s fitness levels were not up to international standards and that their skill levels lagged significantly behind other teams. Kirsten emphasized that despite extensive cricketing experience, the players lacked the necessary game awareness and decision-making skills, such as knowing which shot to play in specific situations.
Furthermore, Kirsten pointed out issues of unity within the team, noting a lack of support among players and a divided team environment. He stressed the importance of fitness, skill improvement, and team cohesion for competing at a global level and warned that only those players who show improvement in these areas would be considered for future team selections.
Kirsten's critical feedback comes as a wake-up call for the Pakistan cricket team to address these issues and work towards becoming a more competitive and united unit.
